Bates Family Farm
After 21 years of service in the Marine Corps, and two battles with cancer, it was time for Joe Bates to retire. Weary from his time in the service, and trying to overcome the medical issues created by his cancer, Joe and his wonderful wife Shannon decided to move their family to the mountains and buy some goats! The goats were purchased for and they had hopes of making cheese from the milk for themselves. It seemed like a good idea...
Once the milk was collected, they realized they had a LOT more than they needed for just cheese (and Joe's cheese was truly horrible)! To make use of the excess, Shannon began using the extra milk to make soaps and lotions for the local farmer's market.
